Five female suicide bombers have attacked a community in Borno’s state capital on Monday, leaving 17 persons killed and several others injured.

Confirming the incidence, the spokesman of the Nigeria Police in Borno State, Victor Isuku, disclosed in a statement that five female suicide bombers besieged a settlement, Kofa in Konduga local government area of the troubled state, wreaking havoc.

He said the suicide bombers were all killed with twelve other persons in the explosions that also got eleven others injured, at the settlement about eight kilometres from Maiduguri.

The statement read:

“Multiple suicide bomb attacks happened yesterday Sunday 18/6/2017, at about 2030hrs, five female suicide bombers detonated IED strapped to their bodies in Kofa community, which is about 8km from Maiduguri town and situated along Maiduguri- Konduga road.

“The first suicide bomber, detonated near a mosque, killing seven persons. The second detonated in a house killing five persons.

“While two other suicide bombers detonated within the same vicinity, killing themselves only.

“A total of seventeen persons including the five suicide bombers died, while eleven persons sustained injuries and were rushed to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

“EOD team were mobilised to the scene and normalcy has since been restored.”


This is coming about 2 weeks Boko Haramgunmen attacked another community – Jiddari Polo in Maiduguri.

Residents fled their homes and taken refuge in neighbouring communities. Army troops had repelled the attack with heavy security presence in Jiddari Polo.

Before then, the insurgent group also attacked two separate villages near Chibokkilling no less than 21 persons.A Chibok

A Chibok resident who spoke to newsmen said the attacks happened on Sunday and Wednesday respectively. He said the insurgents first struck Kaya, a village 27 km from Chibok, and that residents had deserted their homes.

“The Boko Haram members came in the evening with their motorcycles, bicycles and started firing at everyone in sight They burnt many houses.

“Those who were fortunate ran away, but those who couldn’t escape were attacked. All the villagers have moved out of the village.People did not hear about the killings because the village is not accessible. It is located inside the bush.”


Hassan said two days after the incident, the attackers returned to a village close to Gumsri, a Borno community, where 14 persons were allegedly killed.

The renewed attacks by the terrorists in Maiduguri recently has really become alarming.
